This marquise spinel from Ceylon carries a quiet authority that speaks of Sri Lanka’s long history as a source of some of the world finest gems, it is a transparent 0.45 carat stone measuring 7.70 x 3.33 x 2.72 mm, faceted in a mixed brilliant cut with an excellent polish, the color reads as an elegant pinkish purple with medium color intensity, the clarity grade is very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, and the gem has no enhancement, this is the kind of stone that feels equally at home in a museum collection as it does in a piece worn every day, it embodies a sense of continuity that appeals to those who cherish legacy and quiet refinement, the marquise silhouette lengthens the finger and concentrates the gem light into scintillating flashes, and the mixed brilliant faceting gives balanced sparkle while preserving the gem s painterly hue, we appreciate how a fine natural spinel like this links the past and the present, and we place equal value on origin, craft, and honest grading. For a custom design this marquise spinel offers wonderful opportunities, set east west in a delicate rose gold bezel it will read as a vintage inspired signet, set north south with small round brilliant white diamonds framing the points a classic halo or three stone ring will elevate the medium color intensity and magnify the stone s brilliance, for a softer palette consider pairing the pinkish purple spinel with peach morganite accents, soft champagne sapphires, or small pale lavender sapphires to create a harmonious pastel cluster, for contrast choose icy white diamonds or a trio of tapered baguette diamonds on either shoulder to emphasize the marquise length and mixed brilliant cut, a simple platinum bezel will underscore the gem s clarity and cool undertones, a warm rose gold bezel will bring forward its pinkish accents, for everyday wear we recommend V prongs or a protective bezel to secure the pointed ends, for a pendant allow the stone to float in a minimal setting to reveal its full profile, our craftsmen are happy to advise on metal choice, setting style, and complementary stones to create a timeless custom piece that honors the spinel s Ceylon heritage, and transforms it into a wearable heirloom.
