0.50 Ct. Rainbow Moonstone

This transparent 0.50 carat cushion shape rainbow moonstone presents a refined balance of proportion and optical character, suitable for a wide range of fine jewelry applications, and offered by us. The stone measures 4.97 by 4.27 by 3.83 millimeters, and it has been cut in a mixed brilliant style to optimize both scintillation and internal light play. The clarity grade is very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, which indicates minor internal features that do not detract from the gem when worn, and the color intensity is light, allowing the stone to display delicate spectral flashes that are characteristic of high quality moonstones. The surface polish is excellent, and there has been no enhancement to alter the stone, ensuring that the material remains natural and unmodified from its original state. The origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, a historic source for fine feldspar gems, and this provenance contributes to the gemological and aesthetic profile that makes it distinct. The mixed brilliant cut and cushion outline have been chosen to enhance the stone’s inherent adularescence while maintaining a classic silhouette. The mixed facet arrangement provides a balance between larger step facets on the pavilion and smaller brilliant facets on the crown, producing a subtle interplay of flash and face up brightness. At 0.50 carat and the stated dimensions, the gem is compact enough to be set in intimate rings, delicate pendants, or refined stud settings, while the cushion form imparts a timeless quality that reads as both contemporary and enduring. The very slightly included clarity, assessed at eye level, suggests the inclusions are minor and stable, and the excellent polish ensures that the surface interactions with light are crisp and clean. Together, these attributes make the gem a reliable candidate for fine jewelry that is intended to be enjoyed daily, or reserved for special occasions, without compromising its visual appeal. Several factors make this rainbow moonstone a candidate to become a generational heirloom, beginning with its natural, unenhanced state and documented origin from Ceylon, Sri Lanka, which provide a clear provenance that can be conveyed to future generations. The combination of thoughtful cutting, excellent polish, and classic cushion form creates an object that will remain stylistically relevant over time, facilitating transfer from one wearer to the next without feeling dated. While moonstone is softer than some traditional heirloom gem materials, prudent design choices mitigate risk, and these decisions contribute to longevity. A protective setting such as a bezel or a recessed prong mounting, combined with a durable metal frame, will safeguard the gem against everyday knocks and abrasion. Additionally, the stone???s modest size and classic proportions make it easy to reconfigure into new pieces as tastes evolve, allowing descendants to adapt the jewel while retaining the original gemstone as the core heirloom element. Practical stewardship and documentation are essential to convert a fine gem into a true family legacy, and we support that transition with clear specifications and care guidance. We recommend a secure, protective setting at the time of initial mounting, regular visual inspections by a professional jeweler to confirm the integrity of the setting, and conservative cleaning methods such as warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding ultrasonic cleaners and harsh chemicals. Proper storage separate from harder gems will prevent surface abrasion, and periodic appraisals and photographic records will assist in valuation and provenance maintenance for insurance and inheritance purposes. The stone???s unenhanced nature, precise cutting, and Ceylon provenance offer a documented starting point for appraisal records. For those who wish to commission a bespoke mounting intended to endure, we can assist in selecting settings and metals that prioritize protection and timelessness, ensuring that this rainbow moonstone remains a meaningful and wearable object to pass from one generation to the next.
