1.01 Ct. Yellowish Green Peridot

One transparent 1.01 carat emerald cut yellowish green peridot, dimensions 6.35 by 5.44 by 3.54 millimeters, presents a refined balance of color and proportion, sourced from Pakistan and offered with full disclosure by us. The stone is fashioned in a classic emerald cut, with clean step facets across the crown and pavilion, truncated corners and a generous table plane, a combination that favors an even color distribution and precise face up presentation. Color is evaluated as medium intensity, sitting squarely in the yellowish green zone that characterizes high quality Pakistani peridot, a hue that reads lively under both natural daylight and standard incandescent light. Clarity is graded slightly included at eye level, which in this specimen translates to small internal features that do not dominate the visual field, rather they add natural character while preserving an overall transparent window. The cut and proportions are executed with an emphasis on symmetry and facet alignment, and polish is excellent, producing clean facet junctions and crisp reflective planes that reinforce the gemological virtues of the piece. No clarity enhancement or heat treatment has been applied, the stone is natural and stable as supplied. From a faceting and optical mechanics perspective, the emerald cut employed for this peridot emphasizes broad, linear flashes of light rather than the dispersed scintillation typical of mixed or brilliant cuts, a deliberate choice to showcase the stone s color and clarity. Peridot s refractive index lies in the range 1.654 to 1.690, with birefringence approximately 0.036, values that provide respectable light return and a degree of doubled facet edge visibility under magnification. The step facet architecture creates parallel planes that act as mirrors, producing controlled light return and an elegant play of light that reveals the stone s internal color zoning and any inclusion patterns in a linear fashion. The relatively high birefringence for an orthorhombic mineral means subtle doubling of pavilion facet outlines can occur when viewed through the table, a property that experienced cutters can use to advantage to enhance perceived depth. The excellent polish on this table, crown and pavilion ensures minimal light scattering at the surface, so that the inherent refractive behavior of peridot is the dominant influence on brilliance. Clarity management and durability considerations are important when evaluating a slightly included peridot in an emerald cut, because the step facet style exposes plate like windows and can make certain inclusion morphologies more obvious. Typical peridot inclusions include slender olivine crystal needles, fine stress fractures, and sometimes the so called lily pad pattern around larger crystals, and this specimen shows small natural features that are contained and do not compromise structural integrity. Peridot ranks approximately six and a half to seven on the Mohs hardness scale, which makes prudent mounting choices advisable for rings intended for frequent wear, particularly given the directional cleavage that olivine can exhibit. The emerald cut mitigates the appearance of minor surface abrasions when properly polished, but the stone still benefits from protective settings, such as bezel or partial bezel designs, or secure four prong mounts with low profile guards. The lack of any enhancement offers collectors and connoisseurs assurance of natural origin and straightforward care, and provenance from Pakistan provides context for the characteristic warm yellow green hue and typical inclusion suite common to that locality. When comparing reflective qualities to other gemstones in its category, this peridot occupies a distinctive position, providing a lively, warm green appearance with moderate brilliance and a signature linear flash aesthetic owing to its emerald cut. Compared with emeralds, which typically display a deeper, more saturated green with a softer, velvety luster and lower refractive behavior, peridot in this weight and cut will appear brighter and more lively in equivalent lighting, its higher refractive index contributing to greater light return. Against greens such as tsavorite garnet or green sapphire, which exhibit higher refractive indices and therefore stronger brilliance and higher dispersion, peridot offers a distinct advantage in tone warmth and a more yellow leaning green, but it will not match the intense sparkle or fire of the garnet or sapphire due to its lower refractive ceiling. Demantoid garnet and other high dispersion green gems will show superior fire and lively scintillation, particularly in brilliant cuts, whereas this emerald cut peridot emphasizes broad flashes and color purity. In practical jewelry terms, the peridot s reflective character is well suited to designs that prioritize color and clarity over aggressive scintillation, and the emerald cut is an intelligent choice to harness the stone s optical properties, creating a sophisticated, architectural appearance. For buyers seeking a natural, medium intensity yellowish green peridot with clear cut quality, accurate proportions, and excellent polish, we present this 1.01 carat emerald cut as a responsibly sourced and technically refined option, ready for custom mounting, and available for consultation on setting and lapidary considerations.
