1.02 Ct. Pinkish Purple Spinel

We are proud to present a remarkable Sri Lankan spinel that combines classical charm with modern gemological excellence, a transparent cushion shaped spinel weighing 1.02 carat, with precise dimensions of 6.54 by 4.80 by 3.64 millimeters. This gem is faceted in a mixed brilliant style to optimize both color and light return, and it displays an intense pinkish purple hue that is immediately engaging. The clarity is evaluated as slightly included at eye level, a characteristic that lends authenticity and character without compromising the gem s visual appeal. The polish is excellent, and importantly this spinel has no enhancement, so you are seeing a natural color that formed deep within the famed alluvial and hard rock deposits of Ceylon, known today as Sri Lanka. For collectors and connoisseurs who appreciate both provenance and natural beauty, this stone represents the type of rare, untreated example that our clientele seeks, and it comes with our signature commitment to quality. When placing this spinel in the context of famous gemstones in history, a useful comparison is to the storied rubies and sapphires that have graced crowns and museum displays, as well as to the legendary spinels that were often mistaken for rubies in the past. The Black Prince s Ruby in the British Imperial State Crown is in fact a large red spinel, a reminder that spinel has shared royal status with more famous stones. Our pinkish purple spinel echoes that noble lineage but offers a more nuanced and modern palette, blending rosy warmth with a cool violet undertone. Compared to a classic ruby like the Sunrise Ruby in which pure saturated red is prized, this spinel offers a rarer tonal complexity, a living color that shifts subtly with light and angle, providing a dynamic presence that many fine rubies cannot match. Against a historic sapphire such as the Logan Sapphire, known for deep blue saturation and a glassy luster, this spinel asserts its own personality by delivering intense color in a warmer range and by reflecting light differently due to its mixed brilliant cut, creating flashes that read as pink one moment and as purple the next. For those who prize individuality over replication, this Sri Lankan spinel carries the cachet of historical gemstones while remaining distinct and contemporary. From a gemological and practical perspective, the combination of mixed brilliant cutting, slight inclusions visible at eye level, and excellent polish makes this spinel exceptionally wearable and visually rewarding. The mixed brilliant cut is intentionally chosen to balance scintillation and color delivery, a contrast to the step cuts often used for sapphires that maximize depth of color but minimize sparkle. This cushion proportion at roughly 6.5 by 4.8 millimeters gives a generous face up presence for a one point zero two carat stone, making it perfectly suited for a ring center, a pendant, or an elegant pair of bespoke ear studs. The slightly included clarity grade affirms the gem s natural origin and provides an internal fingerprint that is unique to each specimen, similar to the tiny inclusions that authenticate many historic gems. Compared with famous stones that were often heat treated or otherwise enhanced to achieve idealized color, this spinel s untreated state from Ceylon enhances its appeal to purists and investors who prefer natural, stable color. Spinel s durability is also a practical advantage, offering good resistance to daily wear compared to softer collectors stones, and the excellent polish ensures that the facets perform at their best under both candlelit and daylight conditions. When considering value and rarity, this pinkish purple Ceylon spinel stands apart from many famous gems and modern market alternatives. Historically celebrated gems carry remarkable provenance and cultural value, but they also represent categories that are commonly emulated or heavily treated to meet market demand. By contrast, a natural, untreated spinel with intense color and precise cutting delivers a pure, unaltered beauty at a price point that is often more accessible than comparable rubies and sapphires of equivalent face up appeal. The collector s advantage here is twofold, color and authenticity, and the unique pinkish purple hue is uncommon enough to intrigue connoisseurs while remaining versatile enough for contemporary jewelry design. For those seeking a stone with narrative potential, this spinel joins the lineage of regal and historic gems while offering its own story as a naturally formed, expertly cut example from the storied gem lands of Ceylon. We are available to provide additional images, certification guidance, and bespoke setting recommendations to ensure that this rare spinel becomes a centerpiece that endures across generations.
