1.17 Ct. Blue Spinel

This 1.17 carat oval blue spinel from Ceylon is presented with precise proportions, measuring 6.81 by 5.58 by 4.01 millimeters, and cut to a mixed brilliant facet pattern that balances table brilliance with pavilion depth. The material is transparent, with a medium intense blue saturation that reads as a deep, slightly steely blue under daylight and a richer, more vivid blue under incandescent lighting. Clarity is described as very very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, and the surface shows an excellent polish, reflecting crisp facet junctions and consistent luster. There has been no enhancement to alter color or clarity, and the documented origin is Sri Lanka, a source noted for producing spinels with stable, attractive blues. We present this gem with its natural attributes intact, suitable for a refined single stone setting or as a principal accent in bespoke jewelry. The internal character of this spinel supplies its unmistakable signature. Within the crown and pavilion one observes a network of fine pinpoint crystals and delicate, linear growth features that interact with the mixed brilliant cut to produce concentrated scintillation and subtle internal reflections. These pinpoint inclusions sit in small clusters and are complemented by faint, planar growth zoning that gives a layered depth to the blue, producing zones that alternately intensify and soften the hue as the stone is rotated. Near the girdle there are tiny, clean-reaching facet reflections created by minute, plate-like inclusions, which contribute a soft, velvety texture to the overall appearance rather than any cloudiness. The combined effect is a gem whose light performance is lively yet disciplined, showing crisp flashes from the table and a persistent, deepening color within the pavilion planes. These inclusion types and zoning patterns are consistent with spinels from Ceylon, presenting a natural internal fingerprint that confirms the stone???s origin and individuality. For designers and connoisseurs seeking a naturally characteristic blue spinel with clear provenance, balanced color, and an internal structure that enhances rather than detracts from brilliance, this stone offers a refined and verifiable signature.
