1.17 Ct. Purple Spinel

This 1.17 carat cushion shaped purple spinel from Ceylon Sri Lanka is a gem that carries the quiet dignity of centuries, a stone that would have sat as comfortably in a royal diadem as it does today in a modern setting. Meticulously faceted in a mixed brilliant cut with dimensions 6.74 x 5.46 x 4.01 mm, this transparent spinel presents an intense color intensity, a clarity grade very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, and an excellent polish. Untreated and natural, it reflects a legacy of old world mining and artisanal cutting, qualities we celebrate. The cushion silhouette and mixed brilliant faceting honor tradition while the precise angles and polish create a lively interplay of color and light, making this stone an instant heirloom for those who prize history and enduring beauty. In the spectrum of gemstones this spinel reflects light with a distinctive, glassy brilliance that sets it apart from nearby categories, it offers a livelier, crisper scintillation than most garnets and a more even, velvety color return than many amethysts. Compared to corundum varieties such as ruby and sapphire, this spinel tends to display a slightly softer overall flash, yet its mixed brilliant cut and superior polish produce mirror like facet reflections that emphasize depth and saturation rather than raw fire. Where fine rubies and sapphires can be known for strong, focused flashes, this Ceylon purple spinel favors a broad, regal sheen that bathes the gem in color and provides consistent light return from every angle. For a client seeking a gemstone that balances ancient provenance with modern optical performance, this spinel offers remarkable presence, versatility in jewelry design, and the reassurance of no enhancements. As presented by us, it is a classic choice for a ring or pendant that will be cherished across generations, a treasure whose reflective qualities reward both close inspection and timeless admiration.
