2.50 Ct. Purple Amethyst

This listing describes a single, transparent amethyst weighing 2.50 carats, presented in an elegant oval proportion. The stone measures 10.11 x 8.57 x 5.64 mm, and it has been faceted in a mixed brilliant cut designed to balance table light return with pavilion sparkle. Clarity is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, and the surface finish is described as excellent polish. Color intensity is classified as intense, the hue a pure purple with even saturation across the table and crown, and there has been no enhancement applied to alter or intensify color or clarity. The gem is sourced from Ceylon Sri Lanka, a locality known for producing gemstones with fine color and reliable crystalline transparency. These objective attributes combine to present a gem that is immediately suitable for classical jewelry mountings where optical performance and natural origin are priorities. When placing this amethyst in the context of notable gemstones from history, it is helpful to consider the attributes that made those stones celebrated, and how this piece echoes some of those qualities while remaining distinct. Historically prized amethysts worn by royalty and clergy were valued for deep, even coloration and optical purity, traits that this Ceylon piece shares through its intense purple and clear window at the table. In terms of brilliance, the mixed brilliant cut here aspires to the light behavior that has long distinguished famous diamonds and well cut sapphires, by maximizing return from the crown while maintaining scintillation from the pavilion. Where emeralds of the Mughal and European collections were celebrated for saturated green and character, and where famed blue sapphires have been prized for velvety tone and dominance of color, this amethyst offers comparable focused color identity in the purple field. The absence of enhancement gives it provenance value similar to historically important gemstones that are prized for their natural state, and its eye level clarity means the stone communicates purity to the viewer in the same immediate way as many historically admired gems. The unique value of this amethyst lies in the confluence of natural origin, untreated status, precise proportions, and a cutting approach that emphasizes both color and light. The 10.11 x 8.57 mm oval dimension provides visual presence on the finger or in a pendant, creating a balance between wearable scale and visible color saturation. The very slightly included clarity grade ensures the gem remains visually clean without the uniformity that can sometimes diminish character in laboratory enhanced material, so the stone retains individuality and a natural internal landscape that can be appreciated under magnification while remaining unobtrusive to the naked eye. The intense color, when viewed in daylight and in jewelry lighting, presents a rich purple that sits between classical deep amethyst and the brighter violet tones that are highly sought in contemporary design. Taken together with the excellent polish and the mixed brilliant faceting, the gem offers lively flash and steady color depth, a combination that aligns with collector expectations for a natural, untreated, and well cut colored gemstone.
