6.65 Ct. Blue Cabochon Turquoise

This is a beautiful natural turquoise, weighing 6.65 carat, presented as an oval cabochon with dimensions 14.16 x 10.28 x 6.45 mm. The stone is opaque with a medium color intensity and an excellent polish, exhibiting a smooth domed surface that responds well to light without displaying artificial sheen. No enhancement has been applied, which is a critical point for buyers who prioritize natural material. In turquoise grading, color, uniformity, and surface integrity are primary factors, along with the presence or absence of matrix and porosity. This example shows a clean field of blue with minimal visible matrix, indicating a dense, well-formed piece. Clarity for turquoise is not the same as for transparent gems, clarity here refers to the evenness of color, absence of cracks or pits, and low porosity, all of which contribute to longevity and wearability. Turquoise typically rates between 5 and 6 on the Mohs scale, so it requires careful setting and handling, but the solid polish and compact profile of this cabochon make it a durable choice for everyday jewelry when set properly. The origin of this specimen is Persia, Iran, a source historically renowned for producing the most sought after blue turquoise. Persian turquoise is prized for its pure robin egg and sky blue hues, and untreated material from this region carries greater collectibility and market value compared to stabilized or dyed stones. For the educated buyer, an untreated Persian cabochon of this size and presentation represents both aesthetic appeal and potential long term value, suitable for high quality rings, pendants, or bespoke pieces where the natural character of the stone is a focal point. Care recommendations include avoiding exposure to acids, cosmetics, and prolonged water immersion, and refraining from ultrasonic cleaning. As representatives of ours, we stand behind the provenance and treatment disclosure of this turquoise, and we can assist with recommendations for setting and care to preserve its color and surface. This cabochon is an excellent choice for collectors and jewelers seeking an authentic, untreated Persian turquoise with reliable physical characteristics and classic beauty.
