6.83 Ct. Greenish Blue Cabochon Turquoise

This 6.83 carat oval turquoise presents a precise and attractive profile, measuring 16.11 x 11.65 x 4.99 millimeters, with a classic cabochon cut, medium color intensity, and an excellent polish. The stone is opaque, showing a pleasing greenish blue hue that is characteristic of Persian origin, Persia, Iran. In turquoise grading color and saturation are primary determinants of value, followed by uniformity of hue, presence or absence of matrix, stability, and finish. This particular example grades well because its medium intensity color is evenly distributed across the surface, the dome of the cabochon is well proportioned to its dimensions, and the polish is executed to a high standard, producing a waxy to slightly vitreous luster that enhances the perceived depth of color. Equally important to educated buyers is the disclosure that this turquoise has received no enhancement. Modern commercial turquoise is often stabilized, dyed, or reconstituted to improve durability and color, practices that can significantly affect long term value. An unenhanced Persian turquoise of this size and quality therefore represents a purer specimen of the material and a more desirable item for collectors and connoisseurs who prioritize natural state over treated alternatives. Persian turquoise occupies a revered place in the history of gemology, prized for centuries for its clear robin egg to sky blue tones and historical associations with craftsmanship in the region. While Persian material can range from sky blue to slightly greener tones depending on iron and copper content, this greenish blue example reflects a balanced mineral composition that produces a medium intensity tone, versatile for both contemporary and traditional jewelry designs. From a design perspective the oval shape and the 4.99 millimeter depth create a profile that sits comfortably in settings intended for rings or pendants, offering a substantial visual presence without excessive height. The cabochon cut is the traditional and most effective presentation for turquoise because it emphasizes color continuity and surface polish rather than faceting, which is unsuitable for this mineral. The consistent color and smooth dome will read well under different lighting conditions, and the stone will pair elegantly with both warm metals such as gold and cooler metals such as silver or platinum, making it an adaptable choice for bespoke pieces and period inspired designs. Clarity considerations for turquoise differ from those for transparent gemstones, because opacity is normal and the appearance of matrix or veining can add to the character rather than detract from value. In this specimen the surface is clean and uniform, with minimal to no visible matrix in the supplied images, which will appeal to buyers who seek a pure color field rather than a heavily veined look. The excellent polish further contributes to the gemological desirability, sealing the surface and producing a tactile smoothness that is appreciated in wearable pieces. Because turquoise typically ranks around five to six on the Mohs scale the absence of stabilization means buyers should be informed about proper care, including avoiding prolonged exposure to chemicals, cosmetics, and strong heat, and preferring bezel settings for protection against knocks. We stand behind the provenance and description of this piece, offering transparency about its Persian origin and its untreated status, information that is essential to educated customers assessing long term value and collectibility. Untreated Persian turquoise in this size, with even color and excellent finish, is comparatively rare on the market, and for a buyer who values natural state, historical origin, and aesthetic quality this cabochon represents a sound addition to a curated collection or a highlight stone for a high quality custom commission.
